Medical Evacuation

Heliwest has the ability to provide Medical Evacuation capabilities throughout Australia and South East Asia. Heliwest has successfully operated in this role in the harsh Pilbara region for clients such as NRW, FMG and BHP Billiton. These services have been conducted with a mix of B206L, AS350s and twin engine MBB BO105LS and Bell 412 EP helicopters.

Heliwest currently operates a dedicated Emergency Medical Service (EMS) helicopter for both North Queensland Rescue and BHP Billiton Iron Ore, based in Mount Isa and Port Hedland respectively.  One of Heliwest’s Bolkow 105s is on permanent standby for NQ Rescue in Queenslad, and a B412EP for BHP Billiton Iron Ore enabling day, night and all-weather recovery of personnel in case of a medical emergency.

Heliwest also has an agreement with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, under which they work cooperatively on specific aeromedical projects that require rotary wing aircraft and technical advice.  This enables the EMS helicopter to be used should a domestic medical emergency occur where a patient needs to be airlifted from any location unsuitable for use by the RFDS aircraft.  Similarly, the EMS helicopter has assisted in post-cyclone rescue efforts along the northern WA coast.  Undoubtedly, a quick-response medical air asset puts the decisive edge on any company’s HS&E policy, as well as being a visible investment in the duty of care of personnel at work, surrounding communities and the rural population in remote areas.
